7. Philippinen: erster Eindruck / first impression

Debby

I hardly know where to start. I got so many impressions, experiences and chats with the kids and the staff in my first week here. Lots of different feelings I have to deal with; I'm touched, fascinated, speechless, shocked and amazed.

Mondays a boy and one of the staff member picked me up from the airport. We drove trough the busy streets of Manila and they brought me to the Father's House. I was very surprised, the boy's English was nearly as good as mine. He asked me heaps of questions during the whole trip and I knew immediately I would love it here.

I'm having a small room in a shared flat in one of the neighboring houses. There I live together with 5 women, four Filipinos and one German. All very friendly and funny girls who help in the Father's House too. Wednesday I got my work plan explained. I will look after the kids, tutor, help with preparing their lunch, help cleaning the house when all the kids are in school and once a week I help in a project with street kids. (Will write more about that another time).

Here in the Father's House I feel like in a camp. The 25 kids, they all call me "Ate Debby", live together by four, six or eight kids in one room. All have to do duties and help with the household. If the bell rings, everybody knows, that the food is ready (rice with sauce, till know it was very yummy *smile*). Mostly some kids are running around somewhere. I'm very impressed about the great organization. Everything is well structured. I know this was lots of work. The kids are very thankful and full of joy. I'm glad having the chance to be here. It's hard to believe, that every single one of the kids lived on the street before and have been victims of traumatic situations. Great that the Father's House exists, where they not only got a bed, but also a great "family".

The Father's House is run by donations and haven't a peso left. They have to think carefully how to invest the little amount of money they have. When I arrived here, they were very thankful about the money, some of you gave me (many thanks again). Part of it they used at the same day for a boy who had to go to the hospital.

Maybe you have a little bit money left. The Father's House is happy about every single peso (dollar, Swiss frank, euro,...). And I promise you, this is a great investment. Lots of Love! Debby
