7. Philippinen: the rock

Help International hat vier verschiedene Bereiche, in welchen sie auf den Philppinen aktiv sind.

• Father's House:
  Zuhause für Strassen- und Waisenkinder (in dem ich mithelfe)
• Set Free Center (Rehab):
  Rehabilitationsdienst für Drogenabhängige
• The Rock:
  Anlaufstelle für Strassenkinder
• Arche Noah:
  Zuhause für verlassene, vernachlässigte, unterernährte und kranke Babys

Jeden Donnerstagnachmittag darf ich im "Rock" mithelfen. Dieser Ort ist vier Mal wöchentlich für ein paar Stunden für Strassenkinder geöffnet und nebst der Teamleitung helfen vor allem Männer aus der Rehab mit. (Das find ich eine super win-win Situation. Die Männer haben eine sinnvolle, echte Aufgabe und die Kinder Freude daran mit den Männern zu spielen). Die Kinder erhalten im "Rock" eine warme Malzeit, haben die Möglichkeit zu duschen, bekommen saubere Keider (die schmutzigen werden im Father's House gewaschen), duerfen spielen und wenn nötig können sie auch medizinische Hilfe in Anspruch nehmen. Da diese Kinder nicht die Möglichkeit haben die Schule zu besuchen, muss ich hier mit Händen und Füssen kommunizieren, was jedoch gar nicht so schlecht funktioniert. Das Rummy bspw. klappt ja sehr gut auch ohne viele Worte. (Dieses Spiel habe ich, seit ich unterwegs bin, nun schon das dritte Mal gespielt; in Coasta Rica, in Australien bei Lea ;-) und nun hier. Nachdem die Kids jeweils das Essen erhalten haben, singt man gemeinsam ein paar Lieder und jemand aus der Leitung hält einen kurzen Input. Ich war hin und weg von dem fröhlichen, lauten Gesang der Kinder und begeistert, wie wirklich alle vom Kleinsten bis zum Grössten, aus voller Kehle mitsangen. Nach dem Input haben die Kinder die Möglichkeit verschiedene Spiele zu machen, zu zeichnen, Bücher anzuschauen oder einfach nur auszuruhen. Dies hat mich beim ersten Mal am meisten erstaunt. Weshalb sind die Kinder mitten am Tag müde und schlafen? Meine Vermutung ist, weil sie sich im Rock sicher fühlen, ohne Angst und Bange die Augen schliessen dürfen und keine Angst vor irgendwelchen Stoerefrieden haben muessen. Sie haben die Möglichkeit dem Missbrauch und der Ungerechtigkeit der Strasse für einige Stunden am Tag zu entfliehen.

Schon zwei Mal erlebte ich nun einen Donnerstagnachmittag im Rock und ich freu mich scho auf jeden weiteren.

Help International has four fields here in the Philippines, where they are working in.

• Father's House:
  a home for street kids and orphans(that's where I'm helping)
• Set Free Center (Rehab):
  a drug rehabilitation center
• The Rock:
  a place for street kids
• Noah's ark:
  a home for abandoned, malnourished and neglected babies

Every Thursday afternoon I have the chance to help in "the rock". Four times a week this place is open to the street kids. Next to the leaders, the team is set together out of men from the Rehab. (I thinks that's so amazing, and a great win-win situation. The men have a useful work to do and the kids are happy to have men around with whom they can play with). The kids get a meal, have the possibility to shower, get clean cloths (the dirty ones will get washed in the Father's House) or just simply can play. If needed they also get medical aid. All these kids don't have the possibility to go to school. Therefor they don't speak any English and I have to communicate with hands and feet. But it kind of works *smile*. Rummy for example can be played with little words. (This game I've played on three continents now; America, Australia and now here in Asia *smile*). When the kids arrive, they first get a meal. Afterwards there is a time of worship and one oft the staff members holds a short input. I was impressed about how the kids sang. I think they really love this part, they sang with all of their hearts. And not just a few, everybody was singing loud and with lot's of passion. After this part, the kids play, draw, look at some books or just hang around, take a rest and sleep. I was wondering, why the kids fall asleep in the middle of the day. My guess: they feel safe in "the rock". The don't have to be afraid and can close their eyes without having any fear. "The rock" is a place where they can flee a few hours from the unfair and dark life on the street.

Twice I could already join the rock and I know that the Thursday afternoons will be very special once.
